Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will lead our retail customer management across the portfolio of products with P&L responsibility for sales objective attainment. The BDM will develop and execute semi-annual business plans that exceed the corporate sales goals with major wholesaler (UNFI) and leading independent retailers in the Southern California marketplace. Experience with Smart & Final, Vallarta, Superior, Northgate, El Super, Cardenas is preferred.
This is a field position based in Southern California.
Key Accountabilities:
• Overall Southern California retailer business development, assisting in setting and executing Barilla objectives
• Meeting customer expectations on sales, brand development, replenishment and retail conditions
• Overall sales objective accountability for region
• Manage trade promotion funds
• Responsibility for partner management, including scorecarding and evaluation of current and potential channels
• Responsibility for sales forecast objectives
• Responsible for make-up and timely submission of all reports needed by customers and Barilla in managing the operation of the business
• Support the sell-in of sales plans that optimize our brands in the areas of pricing, sales, availability, visibility, equity and loyalty
• Understand and leverage the dynamic digital marketing environment to maximize the business
• Work with brand teams and retail partners to develop best practices to maximize ROI for the company.
• Adopt and apply best practices at the category level to appropriately manage risk and capitalize on opportunities.
• Responsible for make-up and timely submission of all reports needed in managing the operation of the business
• Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Background:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) selling experience with specific retail (food preferred) sales experience, at least 3 of which is in the Southern California market
• Proven problem-solving capability, consensus builder
• Experience identifying and developing new customer opportunities and relationships
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects, bringing each from idea generation to completion
• Demonstrated business acumen of marketing, supply chain and financial objectives
• Strong presentation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver results
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience building solid relationships with key retailers/e-tailers
• Experience with broker management/sales agency preferred
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 30% domestically as well as potentially internationally
As of the date of this posting, the estimated pay range for this role is $125k-$130k plus eligibility to participate in the annual discretionary bonus plan. The actual pay for the position will be determined by various factors, including but not limited to job-related experience, skills, education, location, and internal equity. This range may be subject to change over time.
